Product Description
Raku-yaki, Hagi-yaki et Karatsu-yaki ceramics have a special resonance and have been loved by tea ceremonial masters in Japan for centuries. These original tea bowl masterpieces were created by three great artists, who are experts concerning these famous potteries. The black kuro-raku bowl by Sasaki Shouraku with its deep ebony color and the particular charm of the hand-molded shape and chisel traces is perfect for tea ceremonies in the style of Sen no Rikyuu. The hagi-yaki potteries are said to have seven transformations with the tea changing the colors of the bowl with time. Akase Seisen created this beautiful piece of simplicity and grace that can only be found with Hagi ceramics. The last masterpiece is the Karatsu bowl by Minematsu Gijin, simple and elegant and with the round symbol of the spirit’s peace in Zen Buddhism, holistic part of the particularly Japanese spirit of tea ceremony. This set is a wonderful occasion to bring together three famous ceramics of traditional Japan, each with their very own charm.
The set comes with a calligraphy by Nishigaki Daidou, Gokuraku-ji chief priest at the Daitoku-ji monastery, reading "wakei seijaku", which means "harmony, respect, purity and tranquility", the spirit of the tea ceremony.
