Paper Craft

It is exceptional in the world that Japan has so many historic wooden structures. These are models restored precisely to what the original old structures are. For producing such models, the restoration process begins with making an accurate drawing in a similar manner that the original structure is actually constructed. Every consequent step follows accurately to the drawing till a model is completed.

The basic material used for the Japanese architecture is wood. We produce models principally with wood, too. A ‘tree’ even as parts in structures does not lose its beauty and original appearance before our eyes today after a lapse of thousands and hundreds of years. It has its own ‘history,’ which is not the case for other materials like plastic. A ‘tree’ can only be processed with masterly usage of tools such as a chisel and a plane, and in careful consideration of the grain or expansion or shrinkage due to humidity. Every step of the process is done manually. Components are processed and assembled with dimensional dispersion of the thickness of painting taken into account to the order of one tenth of a millimeter.

Different from modern construction, it requires highly professional knowledge and experience to complete a complex structure from a drawing and processing components to an assembly process.

Our exquisite technique of restoration of historic wooden structures makes it possible to preserve the value of Japanese culture in a visible form.
